Bacon cures nosebleed,Jack Frost sure knows how to mess up a woman's sexy game. In addition to the alligator skin, chapped lips and hat hair, winter weather makes the nasal region extra ugly, causing sniffles, sneezing and snot galore. Uncontrollable, hotter-than-July indoor heating and lack of humidity doesn't help either, drying out all those sensitive, irritated nasal membranes. So much blowing and honking could easily lead to a nosebleed. If tissue after tissue doesn't stop the bleeding, try this: Head to the fridge and grab a wad of bacon. Why, you ask? It seems the cure for nosebleeds might lie in a slice of cured pork.

While it may not sound (or be) kosher, an article in The Guardian reported that a trio of Detroit doctors cured a young girl of "extreme epistaxis" (the medical term for nosebleed) by creating, get this, a "nasal tampon" made from strips of cured pork.

Now, nose-packing is standard ER procedure, but usually, the main ingredient is gauze. And salt (sodium chloride) in and of itself, is already a tried-and-true remedy to reduce swelling, as it staves off bacteria and constricts the blood vessels. Packing a strip of salty cured meat up a patient's nose is kind of a stretch, but these doctors smelled salty success. But apparently, these doctors weren't pork pioneers. Bacon nasal tampons were used in the 40s and 50s as a rudimentary homeopathic method for nosebleeds, but fell out of favor due to possible bacteria spreading by shoving raw cured bacon strips up your schnozz. (But a far less expensive remedy than, say, putting a steak on a black eye.)
To some cured-pork purists, it might seem an abomination to shove bacon up your nose instead of in your mouth. According to the rib-tickling website Bacon Today, the Top 10 reasons bacon is actually healthy for you doesn't include preventing nosebleeds -- I'd think any health benefit that the Bacon folks can add to the Win column would be a good thing.
Maybe next time my nose is stuffed up, I'll fry up a slab of thick-cut, maple-cured bacon and inhale that smoky, crackling goodness in like a humidifier... a delicious but dangerous humidifier. (Watch out for that sizzling hot grease!) On second thought, I'll just use some saline spray and make myself a BLT.

In 2011, Moore's personal life became heavily scrutinized when "Two and a Half Men" star Kutcher faced allegations that he was cheating on Moore. The actress has been lying low of late — she appeared in several smaller films in the past year, including "Margin Call" and "Another Happy Day."

Last fall, shortly before she announced her split from Kutcher, Moore had many fans worried about her health after she appeared thinner than usual at several red-carpet appearances to promote "Margin Call." But she kept up a brave face in the wake of all the rumors regarding her appearance and her marriage.

It all came to a head in November when Moore and Kutcher confirmed that they were separating. In a statement, Moore said, "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton.

"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," the statement continued. "This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."

Wisconsin Man Arrested Strange Name: Wisconsin man arrested strange name-Police in Wisconsin arrested a man for carrying a concealed weapon and while the arrest went rather smoothly, it was anything but ordinary. That is because the man they arrested is named Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop.

According to the police report, officers found Zopittybop-Bop-Bop, 30, near tennis courts in a park after neighbours complained of excessive drinking and drug use.

Zopittybop-Bop-Bop was known to police after being arrested in April 2011 for carrying a concealed handgun. When officers approached, Zopittybop-Bop-Bop put his hands in his pockets, which put officers on alert as they arrested him.

He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and violating probation.

"While enroute to the Dane County Jail, Beezow Doo Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop told officers that he would 'Get even with them,' reads the report. "It is unclear what the suspect meant by his statement, but he was booked into the jail nevertheless."

According to Madison.com, court records show Zopittybop-Bop-Bop was previously named Jeffrey Drew Wilschke. It is unclear why he changed his name, but we wonder if he regrets it in light of a new study in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science. It found people with weird names can face a lifetime of neglect, lower self-esteem, higher likelihood of smoking, diminished educational prospects and will have fewer relationship opportunities.

"It's remarkable that just a name can influence how your social environment reacts to you, and how this reaction can influence your life," said study co-author Wiebke Neberich to the Montreal Gazette.

Maybe Zopittybop-Bop-Bop was following in the footsteps or possibly setting the trend for sports stars Chad Johnson and Ron Artest changing their names to Chad Ochocinco and Metta World Peace respectively.

Dan Radcliffe might be working on a script no one will want to see, but his next is a movie we're definitely interested in.

Twitch reports that Radcliffe is allegedly up for the part of Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming film "Kill Your Darlings." The role originally belonged to Jesse Eisenberg when the movie was first announced, but sources close to Twitch say Radcliffe is apparently taking his place. The former "Harry Potter" star will reportedly get started on the production after he finishes his run on Broadway in "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying."

The film, created by writer-director John Krokidas, is a thriller based on actual events that occurred between famous authors Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr.

Carr is credited for bringing together Ginsberg, Kerouac and William S Burroughs in friendship, but he also famously served time in 1944 for murdering his lover David Kammerer. It's unclear what the exact plot of the movie is, but that last little factoid definitely ties in to the film's plot.

Chris Evans was originally supposed to be playing Kerouac and Ben Whishaw was attached to play Carr back when the flick was first announced, but it's unclear whether they're still attached to it or whether Krokidas will assemble a new cast. It will be interesting to see what spin Radcliffe gives on the poet, especially in lieu of James Franco just playing him in the well-received movie "Howl." Maybe he will be able to relate to Ginsberg over the fact he's starting to write some pretty good poetry.

If you think a Chihuahua doesn't have much in common with a Rottweiler, you might be on to something.

An ancient dog skull, preserved in a cave in the Altai Mountains of Siberia for 33,000 years, presents some of the oldest known evidence of dog domestication and, together with equally ancient dog remains from a cave in Belgium, indicates that domestication of dogs may have occurred repeatedly in different geographic locations rather than with a single domestication event.

In other words, man's best friends may have originated from more than one ancient ancestor, contrary to what some DNA evidence previously has indicated.

"Both the Belgian find and the Siberian find are domesticated species based on morphological characteristics," said Greg Hodgins, a researcher at the University of Arizona's Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory and co-author of the study that reports the find.

"Essentially, wolves have long thin snouts and their teeth are not crowded, and domestication results in this shortening of the snout and widening of the jaws and crowding of the teeth."

The Altai Mountain skull is extraordinarily well preserved, said Hodgins, enabling scientists to make multiple measurements of the skull, teeth and mandibles that might not be possible on less well-preserved remains. "The argument that it is domesticated is pretty solid," said Hodgins. "What's interesting is that it doesn't appear to be an ancestor of modern dogs."

The UA's Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory used radiocarbon dating to determine the age of the Siberian skull.

Radioactive carbon, or carbon-14, is one of three carbon isotopes. Along with naturally occurring carbon dioxide, carbon-14 reaches the surface of the Earth by atmospheric circulation, where plants absorb it into their tissues through photosynthesis.

Animals and humans take in carbon-14 by ingesting plants or other animals that have eaten plants. "Carbon-14 makes it into all organic molecules," said Hodgins. "It's in all living things."

"We believe that carbon-14 production is essentially constant over time," said Hodgins. "So the amount of carbon-14 present in living organisms in the past was similar to the levels in living organisms today. When an animal or plant dies, the amount of carbon-14 in its remains drops at a predictable rate, called the radioactive half-life. The half-life of radiocarbon is 5,730 years."

"People from all over the world send our laboratory samples of organic material that they have dug out of the ground and we measure how much carbon-14 is left in them. Based on that measurement, and knowing the radiocarbon half-life, we calculate how much time must have passed since the samples had the same amount of carbon-14 as plants and animals living today."

The researchers use a machine called an accelerator mass spectrometer to measure the amount of radioactive carbon remaining in a sample.

The machine works in a manner analogous to what happens when a beam of white light passes through a prism: White light separates into the colors of the rainbow.

The accelerator mass spectrometer generates a beam of carbon from the sample and passes it through a powerful magnet, which functions like a prism. "What emerges from it are three beams, one each of the three carbon isotopes," said Hodgins. "The lightest carbon beam, carbon-12, bends the most, and then carbon-13 bends slightly less and carbon-14 bends slightly less than that."

The relative intensities of the three beams represent the sample's carbon mass spectrum. Researchers compare the mass spectrum of an unknown sample to the mass spectra of known-age controls and from this comparison, calculate the sample's radiocarbon age.

At 33,000 years old, the Siberian skull predates a period known as the Last Glacial Maximum, or LGM, which occurred between about 26,000 and 19,000 years ago when the ice sheets of Earth's last ice age reached their greatest extent and severely disrupted the living patterns of humans and animals alive during that time. Neither the Belgian nor the Siberian domesticated lineages appear to have survived the LGM.

However, the two skulls indicate that the domestication of dogs by humans occurred repeatedly throughout early human history at different geographical locations, which could mean that modern dogs have multiple ancestors rather than a single common ancestor.

"In terms of human history, before the last glacial maximum people were living with wolves or canid species in widely separated geographical areas of Euro-Asia, and had been living with them long enough that they were actually changing evolutionarily," said Hodgins.

"And then climate change happened, human habitation patterns changed and those relationships with those particular lineages of animals apparently didn't survive."

"The interesting thing is that typically we think of domestication as being cows, sheep and goats, things that produce food through meat or secondary agricultural products such as milk, cheese and wool and things like that," said Hodgins.

"Those are different relationships than humans may have with dogs. The dogs are not necessarily providing products or meat. They are probably providing protection, companionship and perhaps helping on the hunt. And it's really interesting that this appears to have happened first out of all human relationships with animals."

As the plane approached Newark the crew reported the man entered the lavatory. When he emerged, they say there was a strong smell ofmarijuana.

He was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and released.

Blumenkranz could not be reached for comment. Two telephone listings for him were disconnected.

A Los Angeles man faces drug charges after he allegedly smoked pot on a JetBlue flight to New Jersey on Monday.

Authorities said 43-year-old Adam Blumenkranz dropped a bag on the plane that the flight attendant believed to be marijuana. She handed it back to him and planned to speak to authorities after landing.

During the flight, Blumenkranz went to the bathroom, and when he emerged, there was a strong smell of marijuana, according to the crew.

Airport police say Blumenkranz claimed it was for medicinal purposes.

Blumenkranz has been charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was ordered to appear in court in Elizabeth, New Jersey, by Jan. 27.

5 Cents Soda Can, Have you ever collected the 5 cent deposit on empty soda-pop cans? I know that legally I have the right to take empty cans to any store selling canned soda-pop and collect 5 cents for every can. I have a bag of cans in my apartment that I’d be happy to recycle, if my building had a recycling bin I trusted. It seems like this deposit collection thing is the next best alternative.

The only catch is that I’ve never seen anyone do it, and I have the sort of social anxiety that prevents me from walking into Gristedes with a big bag of empty cans and no idea of who I should talk to or what to expect.

I don’t even know if it is OK to crush the cans!

The move marks another chapter in what has become one of Canadian ice hockey’s darkest stories. James entered the plea in a Winnipeg courtroom Wednesday via video link from Montreal.

The disgraced coach was originally facing nine charges of sexual assault involving three players spanning 1979 to 1994, but only pleaded guilty to charges involving two. The names of the two other players are protected under a court-ordered publication ban. The 59-year-old James, who has been out on bail for almost a year and living in Montreal, will appear in Winnipeg in February to be sentenced.

He has already served a 3 1/2-year prison sentence for abusing other former players he coached, including former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy.
The most recent charges came after Fleury published an autobiography in which he described the abuse he suffered.
In the book “Playing With Fire” the former Calgary Flames star told of how James recruited him at 13 to play in Winnipeg and then in Moose Jaw. He said James would visit and abuse him on the road—fondling him or performing oral sex. James obtained Fleury’s silence by threatening the youngster’s dream of one day playing in the NHL.
Fleury detailed how James took him and Kennedy to Disneyland, where he said James would take turns molesting them in motel rooms. James pleaded guilty to the charges involving Kennedy in 1997, but Fleury stayed silent until 2009.
The agreed statement of facts read out in the Winnipeg courtroom by Crown Colleen McDuff said James’s abuse of Fleury started in September 1983 and lasted until August 1985.
The statement said the encounters began with James fondling Fleury while he slept and escalated to the coach performing oral sex. The statement indicated it was much the same with the second victim. Those attacks took place between 1989 and 1994.
At a news conference in Calgary, Fleury criticized the justice system for how it handled the James case.

“Graham James pled guilty years ago, and then he was granted a pardon, after he was found in Mexico and brought back to Canada on these charges,” he said. “He was given bail … this is what the mighty Canadian justice system allowed a previously convicted child rapist to do.”
Fleury said a convicted pedophile like James doesn’t change.
“I believe what people show me—he showed me he was and is a rapist. There is no changing a monster like that.”

He criticized the fact James remains on bail and suggested he should serve a lengthy sentence.
“It took me 27 years to get comfortable in my own skin,” Fleury said. “To me, that’s a pretty decent sentence.”
Both Kennedy and Fleury spiraled downward as adults despite their professional success on the ice. They were both divorced, and both abused drugs and alcohol.

Hayes, a meteorologist since 1970, said he has never seen a year for extreme weather like this, calling it “the deadly, destructive and relentless 2011.”

And this year’s total may not stop at 12. Officials are still adding up the damage from the Tropical Storm Lee and the pre-Halloween Northeast snowstorm, and so far each is at $750 million. And there’s still nearly a month left in the year.
Scientists blame an unlucky combination of global warming and freak chance. They say even with the long-predicted increase in weather extremes triggered by manmade climate change, 2011 in the U.S. was wilder than they predicted. Abu-Jamal, a one-time journalist, garnered worldwide support from the "Free Mumia" movement. Hundreds of vocal supporters and death-penalty opponents regularly turn out for court hearings in his case, even though Abu-Jamal is rarely entitled to attend.

His message resonated particularly on college campuses and in the movie and music industries -- actors Mike Farrell and Tim Robbins were among dozens of luminaries who used a New York Times ad to advocate for a new trial, and the Beastie Boys played a concert to raise money for Abu-Jamal's defense fund.

His conviction was upheld through years of legal appeals. But a federal appeals court ordered a new sentencing hearing after ruling the instructions given to the jury were potentially misleading.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to weigh in on the case in October. That forced prosecutors to decide if they wanted to again pursue the death penalty through a new sentencing hearing or accept a life sentence.

In the 16th century, Cardinal Hippolytus Medici had a collection of people of different races as well as exotic animals. One of the first modern public human exhibitions was P.T. Barnum's exhibition of Joice Heth on February 25, 1835 and, subsequently, the Siamese twins Chang and Eng Bunker. These exhibitions were common in freak shows. However, the notion of the human curiosity has a history at least as long as colonialism. For instance, Columbus brought indigenous Americans from his voyages in the New World to the Spanish court in 1493. Another famous example was that of Saartjie Baartman of the Namaqua, often referred to as the Hottentot Venus, who was displayed in London and France until her death in 1815. 1870s to World War II

Exhibitions of exotic populations became popular in various countries in the 1870s. Human zoos could be found in Paris, Hamburg, Antwerp, Barcelona, London, Milan, New York, and Warsaw with 200,000 to 300,000 visitors attending each exhibition. In Germany, Carl Hagenbeck, a merchant in wild animals and future entrepreneur of many European zoos, decided in 1874 to exhibit Samoan and Sami people as "purely natural" populations. In 1876, he sent a collaborator to the Egyptian Sudan to bring back some wild beasts and Nubians. The Nubian exhibit was very successful in Europe and toured Paris, London, and Berlin. He also dispatched an agent to Labrador to secure a number of Esquimaux (Eskimo) (Inuit) from the settlement of Hopedale; these Inuit were exhibited in his Hamburg Tierpark.

Geoffroy de Saint-Hilaire, director of the Jardin d'acclimatation, decided in 1877 to organize two ethnological spectacles that presented Nubians and Inuit. That year, the audience of the Jardin d'acclimatation' doubled to one million. Between 1877 and 1912, approximately thirty ethnological exhibitions were presented at the Jardin zoologique d'acclimatation.

Both the 1878 and the 1889 Parisian World's Fair presented a Negro Village (village nègre). Visited by 28 million people, the 1889 World's Fair displayed 400 indigenous people as the major attraction. The 1900 World's Fair presented the famous diorama living in Madagascar, while the Colonial Exhibitions in Marseilles (1906 and 1922) and in Paris (1907 and 1931) also displayed humans in cages, often nude or semi-nude. The 1931 exhibition in Paris was so successful that 34 million people attended it in six months, while a smaller counter-exhibition entitled The Truth on the Colonies, organized by the Communist Party, attracted very few visitors—in the first room, it recalled Albert Londres and André Gide's critics of forced labour in the colonies. Nomadic Senegalese Villages were also presented.

Native people of Suriname were displayed in the International Colonial and Export Exhibition in Amsterdam, held behind the Rijksmuseum in 1883.

Similar human displays had been seen at the 1901 Pan-American Exposition and at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, where Little Egypt performed bellydance, and where the photographers Charles Dudley Arnold and Harlow Higginbotham took depreciative photos, presenting indigenous people as catalogue of "types," along with sarcastic legends.

To increase the number of visitors, the Cincinnati Zoo invited one hundred Sioux Native Americans to establish a village at the site in 1896. The Sioux lived at the zoo for three months.

In 1904, Apaches, Igorots (from the Philippines) and the famous Ota Benga were displayed, dubbed as "primitive", at the Saint Louis World Fair. The USA had just acquired, following the Spanish-American War, new territories such as Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico, allowing them to "display" some of the native inhabitants. To further illustrate the indignities heaped upon the Philippine people following their eventual loss to the Americans, the United States made the Philippine campaign the centrepoint of the 1904 World's Fair held that year in St. Louis, MI . In what was enthusiastically termed a "parade of evolutionary progress," visitors could inspect the "primitives" that represented the counterbalance to "Civilisation" justifying Kipling's poem "The White Man's Burden". Pygmies from New Guinea and Africa, who were later displayed in the Primate section of the Bronx Zoo, were paraded next to American Indians such as Apache warrior Geronimo, who sold his autograph. But the main draw was the Philippine exhibit complete with full size replicas of Indigenous living quarters erected to exhibit the inherent backwardness of the Philippine people. The purpose was to highlight both the "civilising" influence of American rule and the economic potential of the island chains' natural resources on the heels of the Philippine-America War. It was, reportedly, the largest specific Aboriginal exhibit displayed in the exposition. As one pleased visitor commented, the human zoo exhibit displayed "the race narrative of odd peoples who mark time while the world advances, and of savages made, by American methods, into civilized workers."

In 1906, socialite and amateur anthropologist Madison Grant, head of the New York Zoological Society, had Congolese pygmy Ota Benga put on display at the Bronx Zoo in New York City alongside apes and other animals. At the behest of Grant, a prominent eugenicist, the zoo director William Hornaday placed Ota Benga displayed in a cage with the chimpanzees, then with an orangutan named Dohong, and a parrot, and labeled him The Missing Link, suggesting that in evolutionary terms Africans like Ota Benga were closer to apes than were Europeans. It triggered protests from the city's clergymen, but the public reportedly flocked to see it.

Benga shot targets with a bow and arrow, wove twine, and wrestled with an orangutan. Although, according to the New York Times, "few expressed audible objection to the sight of a human being in a cage with monkeys as companions,” controversy erupted as black clergymen in the city took great offense. “Our race, we think, is depressed enough, without exhibiting one of us with the apes,” said the Reverend James H. Gordon, superintendent of the Howard Colored Orphan Asylum in Brooklyn. “We think we are worthy of being considered human beings, with souls.”

New York Mayor George B. McClellan, Jr. refused to meet with the clergymen, drawing the praise of Dr. Hornaday, who wrote to him, “When the history of the Zoological Park is written, this incident will form its most amusing passage.”

As the controversy continued, Hornaday remained unapologetic, insisting that his only intention was to put on an ethnological exhibit. In another letter, he said that he and Madison Grant, the secretary of the New York Zoological Society, who ten years later would publish the racist tract The Passing of the Great Race, considered it “imperative that the society should not even seem to be dictated to” by the black clergymen.

Still, Hornaday decided to close the exhibit after just two days, and on Monday, September 8, Benga could be found walking the zoo grounds, often followed by a crowd “howling, jeering and yelling."

PARIS -- It's a queasy experience, viewing chained tribal dancers do a white man's bidding, or African women stripped and photographed to feed European curiosity.

Until just a few generations ago, this is how most white people learned about those with skin of a different shade. A new Paris exhibit examines how for centuries, colonizers plucked villagers from Africa, the Americas or the South Pacific and put them on display half a world away. The demeaning tradition shaped racist attitudes that linger today.

Curator Lilian Thuram, a former soccer star and now anti-racism advocate, hopes the exhibit at the Quai Branly Museum in Paris makes people question deep-held beliefs about the "other."

"You have to have the courage to say that each of us has prejudices, and these prejudices have a history," he said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Thuram is an ideal public face for this unusual exhibit. A pensive black man with a ready smile, he has suffered racist insults on and off the field.

It's a delicate undertaking for a museum: exhibiting offensive images without glorifying them, urging visitors to look closer and be repulsed.

Scientific curator Nanette Jacomijn Snoep said the exhibit isn't about blaming viewers of the past for their curiosity.

"For the visitors of this era, it was a way ... to see what was happening elsewhere in the world. Except that visitors weren't totally aware that was a spectacle, that it was a fabricated difference," fabricated to make the viewer feel superior, she said in an interview.

Many of the subjects of this colonial cruelty remain nameless, and forgotten to history. "Zulu Mealtime" one photo reads. "Bushmen." "Indian Chief." "Negro Head." An old film reel shows a Frenchman peppering commands at two dark-skinned dancers in headdress so cumbersome their faces are barely visible.

But some have been identified, including the great-grandparents of Thuram's 1998 World cup teammate Christian Karembeu, shipped to Paris from the French Pacific territory of New Caledonia and exhibited as "cannibals."

The Quai Branly exhibit includes a projected silhouette of South African Saartje Baartman, known to 19th-century viewers as the Hottentot Venus, and a naked, backside-only photograph of another African woman with similarly generous buttocks.

Just when you think the exhibit is all about the past, a familiar venue jumps out: New York's Coney Island features in an old "freak show" poster. Zulus were put on display at Buckingham Palace. Paris' Jardin d'Acclimatation, today one of the French capital's most popular amusement parks, once hosted human "zoos."

Such displays bolstered 19th-century scientists who sought to prove that different races were biologically distinct – and whites biologically superior.

"There is only one species of homo sapiens," Thuram said, standing defiantly in front of a metallic contraption once used to measure skulls. It resembles a torture device or mutant sextant, and is accompanied by sculpted busts meant to illustrate racial distinctions.

"This 'scientific racism' was introduced to the population. Visitors of the time could come to the Jardin d'Acclimatation and see people from Asia, Africa, Oceania behind an enclosure, and they were presented as savages," Thuram said. "You can see that there is a history, and unfortunately today we have the consequences of this history."

Recent comments by the president of soccer's world governing body and an ex-caddy for Tiger Woods exposed outdated views toward racism that continue to pervade modern life. France itself struggles daily with racism toward immigrants from former colonies, stretching from stadium violence to the unfounded fear among some that Muslims intend to supplant French culture with Islamic traditions.

Like much at the Quai Branly Museum – a spacious modern venue at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, former President Jacques Chirac's ode to colonized cultures – this exhibit is under-lit. The somber atmosphere augments the feeling that this part of history was anything but enlightened.

It elicits questions about disability and disease and how entertainers profited from them, exhibiting families with overwhelming facial hair, humans exceptionally tall or exceptionally tiny. These questions remain largely unanswered by a show that focuses instead on the racist aspect of putting other humans on display.

An audioguide is strongly recommended to give the exhibit the necessary context. The guides are available in English and German, and there is an English translation of some explanatory panels but not of each item displayed. The money will be used to repay victims of the scheme, which Maguire and other players were unaware of.

Court records show that 14 of the 22 people sued to recoup poker winnings have settled their cases. Howard Ehrenberg, the bankruptcy trustee who sued the group, said Monday the poker settlements total more than $1.7 million.

Ehrenberg said Maguire's payout to resolve the case is in the same range as others who agreed to settlements.

"He did not end up with any better settlement than the others," Ehrenberg said.

Maguire's settlement states he "strongly disputes that he violated any laws, rules or regulations in regard to participating in the poker games" but was agreeing to the payment to avoid fighting the case, which would be costly.

The actor signed the settlement on Nov. 22 and it was filed a day later with a bankruptcy court handling the lawsuits.

The trustee alleged Maguire and others had no right to keep their winnings from the unlicensed poker games held at upscale hotels and private residences. Maguire and others have denied there was anything improper about the matches.

In court filings, Maguire noted that he lost $168,500 to Ruderman, who is currently serving a 10 year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud, two counts of investment adviser fraud and willful failure to file taxes.

Wilde died in the city in 1900, aged 46. His restored tomb will finally be unveiled this week, newly protected from his devotees.

For years visitors would confine themselves to leaving gently admiring billets doux dedicated to the creator of The Importance of Being Earnest and Lady Windermere's Fan. All that changed in the late 1990s, when somebody decided to leave a lipstick kiss on the tomb. Since then lipstick kisses and hearts have been joined by a rash of red graffiti containing expressions of love, such as: "Wilde child we remember you", "Keep looking at the stars" and "Real beauty ends where intellect begins". Surprisingly, perhaps, most are written by women.

Merlin Holland, Wilde's grandson, said the lipstick had become a "serious problem" because the grease sinks into the stone. "Every cleaning was causing a bit more stone to wear away," he said.

"No amount of appeals to the public did any good at all. Kissing Oscar's tomb on the Paris tourist circuit has become a cult pastime, which is proving impossible to break. Even if one could catch someone in flagrante delicto – there is a €9,000 (£7,700) fine – most perpetrators are probably tourists, so they would be home before the French authorities could bring them to court.

"From a technical point of view, the tomb is close to being irreparably damaged. Each cleaning has rendered the stone more porous necessitating a yet more drastic cleaning."

With the Paris authorities offering a fraction of the cost of preserving the memorial, the Irish have come to the rescue, paying for it through the office of public works in Dublin, which is responsible for a number of Irish monuments and buildings overseas. They have paid for a radical cleaning and "de-greasing" of the tomb, as well as a glass barrier which will surround it to prevent the kissers from causing further damage.

Holland explained that when Wilde died he was bankrupt and his friends could offer him only un enterrement de sixième classe (a sixth-class burial) at Bagneux, outside the city. Over the following years his friend and literary executor, Robert Ross, managed – through the sale of Wilde's works, including De Profundis, his bitter letter of recrimination from prison to Lord Alfred Douglas (Bosie), his former lover – to annul Wilde's bankruptcy and purchase a burial plot "in perpetuity" at Père Lachaise.

The following year Helen Carew, one of Ross's friends who had known Wilde in his heyday, anonymously offered £2,000 to erect a monument by the young sculptor Jacob Epstein. The commission, a flying naked angel inspired by the British Museum's Assyrian figures, was finally unveiled in 1914, surviving intact until the early 1960s, when the angel was vandalised, its genitals hacked off and stolen.

The unveiling of the monument will take place on Wednesday, the anniversary of Wilde's death. It will be attended by representatives from the Irish and French departments of culture, as well as Rupert Everett, whose films include The Importance of Being Earnest.

Holland hopes that the barrier will deter loving vandals. Designed to be unobtrusive and aesthetic, it could only discourage rather than be preventative and he says: "Some determined kissers will no doubt try to find ways of kissing the upper extremities."

Study author Dr Karla Allebrandt, from the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich said: 'Apparently the relationships of sleep duration with other conditions such as heart disease and diabetes can be in part explained by an underlying common molecular mechanism.

'The ABCC9 gene is evolutionarily ancient, as a similar gene is present in fruitflies. Fruitflies also exhibit sleep-like behaviour.

'When we blocked the function of the ABCC9 homolog in the fly nervous system, the duration of nocturnal sleep was shortened.'

Co-author Professor Till Roenneberg added: 'It is very encouraging for us that ABCC9 also affects the nocturnal sleep period in flies.

'This tells us that the genetic control of sleep duration may well be based on similar mechanisms in a wide range of highly diverse species.'

Writing in the journal Science, Ying-Hui Fu, University of California, San Francisco, professor of neurology, and colleagues reported the identification of a gene that regulates how much sleep one needs.

The discovery explains why some people can thrive on six hours of sleep a day rather than the recommended eight to eight-and-a-half hours. "Short term and chronic disruptions in the length of optimal sleep can have serious consequences on cognition, mood and physical health, including cancer and endocrine function," said Fu.

Researchers studied a small extended family in which a mother and her daughter had life-long shorter daily sleep requirements than most individuals.
During blood tests of the mother and daughter, researchers said they discovered a mutation on their DEC2 gene which is considered to be rare. The DEC2 gene has been previously identified by scientists to be involved in the regulation of circadian rhythms.

The team then genetically engineered mice and fruit flies to have the mutated human gene. The mice tended to sleep less over the course of 24 hours and in electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) measurements indicating reduced nonREM and REM sleep, said Ying He, a postdoctoral fellow in the Fu lab.

Sirhan will appear before a California parole board on Wednesday for the 14th time since his May 1969 sentencing. It is the first time he will be represented by Pepper.

Taking a page from the conspiracies that have dogged the assassination of Kennedy's brother President John F. Kennedy, Pepper plans to introduce new evidence that suggests there was a second gunman who fatally shot RFK in the kitchen of a Los Angeles hotel, following his victory in the 1968 California presidential primary.

Pepper said he believes Sirhan was "hypno-programmed," essentially brainwashed to kill Kennedy and his memories were then erased.

The lawyer's tale has all the makings of a great conspiracy theory, if not a science fiction thriller akin to the "Manchurian Candidate."

"Ten independent witnesses say Sirhan was always in front of Bobby, never behind him," said Pepper, "but the autopsy says Bobby was shot at close range from behind the right ear."

Pepper says he believes he knows who ordered Sirhan to shoot Kennedy, but won't yet say who it is. He said in addition to the parole hearing, he is preparing an appeal.

Pepper said Sirhan is "remorseful" for his role in the 1968 assassination of Kennedy, but the gunman "does not remember anything about the shooting."

The image of Sirhan sitting in a California prison cell in 2011 regretting a crime he does not remember does not jibe with a defiant Sirhan sitting a California courtroom in 1969.

At his trial, Sirhan confessed to the crime and declared he had committed it "with 20 years of malice aforethought."

Second Gunman Conspiracy Theory

Members of the Kennedy family declined to discuss the claims by Sirhan's lawyer.

The second gunman theory is not new, said Cyril Wecht, a renowned forensic pathologist and one of two independent physicians who examined Kennedy's body. Wecht was also one of nine forensic pathologists on a panel who reexamined the JFK assassination, but the only one who dissented from the single bullet theory.

Wecht said the coroner in the RFK case gave "unchallenged, unequivocal" testimony to the grand jury that Kennedy had been shot from behind at close range. Witnesses all put Sirhan in front of Kennedy.

Wecht said it was scientifically plausible to hypnotize someone and induce them to murder, but said he did not know if there was enough evidence to suggest that in Sirhan's case.

Parole hearings are typically not the platform to introduce new evidence, or retry a case. Boards typically want to hear convicts express remorse for their crimes, not deny remembering them.

But Pepper says "There is an exception when the factual narrative is wrong. Counsel has the right to correct those facts. I don't know why prior counsel never did that. I am going to clarify the record."

A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said she cannot comment on the specifics of Sirhan's case, but parole board hearings generally "are not to decide guilt or innocence."

"Religion played a big role" in the community, Kelso said as he stood near the river where small fluttering flags marked the building's outline. Settlers "put a lot of work in the building of this big church, and that became very important for the colony."
Noting the size of the wood post's holes, Kelso said the church would have been able to support the mud and stud building's heavy roof.

It was a neighbour who alerted the police after he became suspicious over the stench coming from next door.

Arthur Berkowitz, 57, said his 400lb neighbour on US Airways Flight 901 from Anchorage to Philadelphia made it impossible to get into his seat.

The obese man spilled over into Mr Berkowitz's personal space and he could not move because the plane was full so he was forced to stand up.
He said the obese man was very sorry. 'The first thing he said to me was: "I want to apologise - I'm your worst nightmare",' he told MailOnline.

Mr Berkowitz added that his ordeal in July presented a safety risk because he could not use his seatbelt for take-off and landing.

'His size required both armrests to be raised up and allowed for his body to cover half of my seat,’ he told the website, elliott.org.

The flight from Anchorage to Philadelphia is one of the longest non-stop U.S. domestic flights and Mr Berkowitz thought he had a spare seat at first.

But before the door closed the airline asked a late-boarding passenger who weighed 400lbs to sit down next to him in the last empty seat.

Mr Berkowitz has been flying with US Airways for 50 years, he said.

He added that there was a young exchange student from Eastern Europe on the same row as him who was 'pinned up against the window' by the obese man because there was so little space.

Flight attendants whom he told about the problem said they could not help him as he was not allowed to sit in their jump seats.

‘They were sympathetic, but could not do anything,’ he told elliott.org. ‘No other seats existed on plane.’

Mr Berkowitz claims they admitted their gate agent had made an error in allowing the passenger to board without having bought two seats.

US Airways has since apologised for the 'regrettable' incident. A statement said: 'Our intention is to offer the best travel experience possible.

'The details you have provided indicate that we have failed to meet our intentions.' It offered Mr Berkowitz a $200 voucher in compensation.

But he called this 'inappropriate' after paying more than $800 for the ticket. He also complained the airline has not fixed the safety issue.

But the National Institute of Anthropology and History said in a statement that there is in fact another apparent reference to the date at the nearby Comalcalco ruin. The inscription is on the carved or molded face of a brick. Comalcalco is unusual among Mayan temples in that it was constructed of bricks.

Arturo Mendez, a spokesman for the institute, said the fragment of inscription had been discovered years ago and has been subject to thorough study. It is not on display and is being kept in storage at the institute.

The "Comalcalco Brick," as the second fragment is known, has been discussed by experts in some online forums. Many still doubt that it is a definite reference to Dec. 21, 2012 or Dec. 23, 2012, the dates cited by proponents of the theory as the possible end of the world.

"Some have proposed it as another reference to 2012, but I remain rather unconvinced," David Stuart, a specialist in Mayan epigraphy at the University of Texas at Austin, said in a message to The Associated Press.

Stuart said the date inscribed on the brick "'is a Calendar Round,' a combination of a day and month position that will repeat every 52 years."

The brick date does coincide with the end of the 13th Baktun; Baktuns were roughly 394-year periods and 13 was a significant, sacred number for the Mayas. The Mayan Long Count calendar begins in 3114 B.C., and the 13th Baktun ends around Dec. 21, 2012.

But the date on the brick could also correspond to similar dates in the past, Stuart said.

"There's no reason it couldn't be also a date in ancient times, describing some important historical event in the Classic period. In fact, the third glyph on the brick seems to read as the verb huli, "he/she/it arrives."

"There's no future tense marking (unlike the Tortuguero phrase), which in my mind points more to the Comalcalco date being more historical that prophetic," Stuart wrote.

Both inscriptions — the Tortuguero tablet and the Comalcalco brick — were probably carved about 1,300 years ago and both are cryptic in some ways.

The Tortuguero inscription describes something that is supposed to occur in 2012 involving Bolon Yokte, a mysterious Mayan god associated with both war and creation.

However, erosion and a crack in the stone make the end of the passage almost illegible, though some read the last eroded glyphs as perhaps saying, "He will descend from the sky."

The Comalcalco brick is also odd in that the molded or inscribed faces of the bricks were probably laid facing inward or covered with stucco, suggesting they were not meant to be seen.

The Institute of Anthropology and History has long said rumors of a world-ending or world-changing event in late December 2012 are a Westernized misinterpretation of Mayan calendars.

The institute repeated Thursday that "western messianic thought has twisted the cosmovision of ancient civilizations like the Maya."

'It’s like a light switch going off, because it hits your brain all at once,' Dr. Chez told CBC Sacramento.
One episode of TV show Pokémon, broadcast in the 1990s caused a wave of seizures in young children.
'The trouble with theaters, it’s dark, the lights flashing in there is more like a strobe light,' he added.
A one-off seizure does no real long-term damage in the majority of cases, Dr. Chez said.

Judge Donna Miller, whose courtroom proceedings are replayed in the TV show Lake Courts, is famous for her unusual sentence deals. In her 17 years as a judge, Miller has ordered defendants to start jogging, take a dance class, tutor math and write Christmas cards, according to the Sentinel.

“I do what I do to try to change the person in front of me,” she said, acknowledging that her self-improvement sentences won’t be doled out to everyone. “If the person needs jail, they get jail.”

Miller said she would check McCovery’s weight after 20 days. And to her surprise, he had already shed 25 pounds.
It’s not easy to lose weight,” Miller told the Sentinel. “I thought he’d lose 5, maybe, 6 pounds — not 25.
Carrying extra pounds can raise the risk of chronic, debilitating and even life-threatening medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. And if waistlines keep expanding at current rates, experts predict half of the U.S. population will be obese by 2030.

McCovery, who takes medication for high blood pressure, said he wanted to lose weight during the trial. But it isn’t easy. Obesity treatments, such as bariatric surgery, are effective, but many people are reluctant to undergo such an invasive procedure. And a dearth of drugs approved to treat obesity leaves few options for extreme weight loss short of strict diets and intense exercise programs.

But the benefits of weight loss are well worth the effort. According to an August 2011 report, if every obese person decreased his or her body mass index by just one percent (a loss of two pounds for a 200-pound adult), as many as 2.4 million diabetes cases, 1.7 million cases of heart disease and stroke and 127,000 cancer cases could be prevented.
Although McCovery lost more than a pound a day, experts say slow and steady weight loss is the best way to shed the pounds for good.

Father of twins stolen sperm, A Houston man has launched a unique court battle, claiming his twin sons resulted from his sperm being stolen and taken to a Houston fertility clinic without his knowledge, Local 2 Investigates reported Tuesday.
"Actually, I couldn't believe it could be done. I was very, very devastated," said Joe Pressil, a 36-year-old telecommunications manager.

"I couldn't believe that this fertility clinic could actually do this without my consent, or without my even being there," he said.

Pressil said he hadn't considered having a family, and his religious beliefs would never allow him to visit a fertility clinic or participate in any form of artificial insemination. Yet three months after he broke up with his girlfriend, she became pregnant with his sperm at the Advanced Fertility Center of Texas on the Katy Freeway near Beltway 8.

In his lawsuit, Pressil said he found out about the plot when a receipt arrived in the mail, listing him as the patient.

"Pressil was listed as the 'patient' on the receipt even though he had never been to (the clinic) nor ever sought treatment for male infertility," according to his lawsuit.

His ex-girlfriend gave birth to twin boys and then sued him for child support. She was granted that child support after blood tests confirmed Pressil was the father.

"That's a violation of myself, to what I believe in, to my religion, and just to my manhood," Pressil said.

Pressil said his ex-girlfriend always claimed she was unable to have children due to a medical condition involving fibroids. He also said she claimed that her condition required a certain sort of condom be used during sex. Now, in hindsight, he said that seems suspicious.

"I did notice a little bit because she would take the condom and ask me to discard it. And usually, a male would discard their own property, but she would always take the condom and she would run off out of the room and I just didn't think anything of it. And I didn't think that anyone could use a condom and bring it to a clinic to get an in vitro," he said.

Pressil's attorney, Jason Gibson says this is particularly terrifying for a man, especially if he's not planning to have a family.

"It's not what you're thinking when you're in a relationship. That's not what most people are thinking, that their partner is going to get a special condom, use that condom as soon as you're done having sex, run off to the fertility clinic to go have an IVF procedure. That's certainly not what my client was thinking," Gibson said.

An attorney representing the Advanced Fertility Center and Omni-Med Laboratories, Danny Sheena, called the lawsuit "suspect" and "disingenuous."

He admitted that some men simply don't like visiting fertility clinics, so some samples are delivered to the clinic without the man being there. He said, in this case, the specimen arrived in a cup that was sealed in a bag.

Sheena said the father had blood work performed and submitted to the clinic around the same time as the in vitro procedure. He also said the clinic has signed consent forms and information sheets from the father.

"That's the procedure of the clinic. Those procedures were followed and we did obtain a consent from the donor as well as his blood sample."

Sheena said he couldn't say for certain whether the father had ever actually been to the clinic and it's possible that the forms could have been fabricated by the mother.

"When patients provide information like [the ex-girlfriend], we rely on truthful and accurate information," Sheena said.

He also pointed out that numerous procedures, including the successful in vitro fertilization which resulted in the twins, were all billed to the health insurance of the father.

"We do know that we do have his blood work, we do know that his insurance was billed for it, and we do know that his credit card was used to pay for [some of] the visits," Sheena said.

Pressil admitted he allowed his then-girlfriend to sign onto his health insurance as 'domestic partners' when they were dating, but he said he thought his insurance was being billed for treatment of the fibroid condition.

Gibson said the fertility clinic simply took the ex-girlfriend's word for it, and allowed her to bring in semen without the man's permission.

"I hope that an indirect result of this lawsuit will be that these 'one stop baby shop' type places that will take your money and get you pregnant without the male's consent will take note and perhaps change the way they do business in the future," Gibson said.

The ex-girlfriend is not being sued, but she is named in the court documents. Her attorney, Derek Deyon, told Local 2 Investigates that the lawsuit is a scam by Pressil to avoid paying child support.

"That's exactly what this is about," said Deyon, who said his client denies ever taking semen from a used condom for the in vitro procedure.

Julia McCabe, 38, stopped breathing after what her family believe was a reaction to a chemical in the dye.

The Yorkshire Post says her father, Keith Miller, has been warned that his daughter may not survive.

Mr Miller, of Shipley, added: "She finished dyeing her hair and said 'I don't feel well, I can't breathe', to her husband. He rushed her to hospital.
"She is in a coma. We've spoken to the doctors and they have more or less said to us the condition she is in now is most likely how she will stay. They are not giving us much hope. It's hard to take in."
Mr Miller said he believes a chemical called para-phenylenediamine (PPD) caused his daughter's condition.

The yellow dog belonged to Lao Pan, a single man who died earlier this month aged 68.
After his room in Panjiatun village near Qingdao city, Shandong Province, was cleared his dog disappeared.
But villagers later found the dog by the grave of its owner. Reports say that for seven days, the dog stayed there, refusing to leave.

Seeing that the dog was going without food, the locals tried to take it back to the village and gave it some buns.
The dog took the buns and returned to the graveyard.
Now the villagers are taking food and water to the dog regularly and plan to put up a kennel for it near its owner's grave.
The story is reminiscent of Edinburgh's Greyfriar Bobby, a Skye terrier who, history recalls, spent 14 years at his master's grave in the 19th century.

University officials say his hands are expected to fully recover.

The University Alaska Anchorage (UAA) said Mr Cheseto, who is studying nursing and nutrition, will remain in hospital for some time to come.

“You can’t stop watching. These characters are real and raw and don’t apologize for anything.”
VH1 has ordered 10 episodes of what it calls a “docu-style social experiment,” which features moms who don’t want to grow up and their young adult daughters who they’d rather pal around with, than parent.
“We see examples of this all around today with mothers living vicariously through their daughters,” VH1’s Original Programming and Production EVP, Jeff Olde, says.
“Part of this speaks to a new cultural definition of age with women in their 40s and 50s no longer constrained by rules about how they need to dress or act,” he continues. “In some cases, this allows them to forge strong bonds with their daughters and true friendships. In other cases, they cross the line and forget their role as a parent and a role model.”
The series places five mothers and their daughters in a house together to see how their BFF status can withstand the time together and alongside other mothers and daughters with similar relationships.
“With this show, I had the same experience I had in Jersey Shore [Season] 1,” Salsano says. “Where I couldn’t leave the control room because I could not believe what was happening before my eyes. At any second chaos could erupt, and most days it did. When there was a fight in that house, it wasn’t a regular reality show squabble – it was personal. Whoever was saying something was going after someone’s mother or daughter.”
As with Jersey Shore, Salsano says she relates to the show’s cast, but not the over-the-top ways in which they express themselves.
“I am super tight with my mom. My mom and I are best friends. I have that in common with these girls,” she says. “However, I can tell you I’ve never been to a nightclub doing shots and hooking up with guys in front of my mother. I’m not judging, because even in the best of times there is no more complicated relationship than one between a mother and daughter. I think that’s something that needs to be explored.”
Mama Drama is executive produced by Salsano for 495 Productions. Olde, Shelly Tatro, and Brad Abramson serve as the EPs for VH1 with supervising producer Sean Gottlieb.

"The Navy's policy on drug use is clear, it is zero tolerance and our personnel are made very aware of it from the start," said Lieutenant Beth Teach, spokeswoman for the U.S. Navy Third Fleet.
"Drug use puts lives at risk, and it cuts into our readiness and safety," she said.
It was not immediately clear when the 28 sailors who are being discharged used Spice, or how exactly they were caught.

+Top sequels of all time- The top worst movies sequels of all time left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth I've decided to move on to a cheerier subject and came up with a list of the top movie sequels of all time. Being a huge movie fan I am naturally leery of the dreaded sequel. So rarely does the sequel to a stellar original ever live up to the hype and equal or exceed the quality of its predecessor. Still, it does happen from time to time, and I've made my picks for the top movie sequels of all time.

10 - Star Trek II - The Wrath Of Khan
The best of the Star Trek movies by far. It has a grittier more violent feel, and is one of those rare times in the history of the Star Trek universe where you actually feel like the protagonists are in real jeopardy.

9 - Spiderman II
The original Spiderman was a huge success, raking in more than $400 million domestically. Comic book geeks everywhere flocked to this movie, seeing it over and over again. With the bar set so high it was hard to imagine Sony could actually equal let alone top what they accomplished with the first film, yet they did just that. Everything about the second movie was just a little bit better. It earns a deserving spot on the list of the top 10 best movie sequels of all time. It's a shame the 3rd installment brought Sony back to reality. Terrible.

8 - Evil Dead 2
This cult horror series peaked with the second installment. Though the original Evil Dead and Army of Darkness are both gems as well, the second movie still stands as the crowning jewel of the trilogy. Bruce Campbell's best work.

7 - Drunken Master 2
It took a long time for the sequel to the original Drunken Master to come out, but it was worth the wait. Jackie Chan is absolutely spot on as the Drunken Master. Equal parts action and comedy this is one of those rare movies you can watch over and over again without getting tired of it.

6 - The Dark Knight
The number 6 spot on the list of the top 10 best movie sequels of all times is actually sort of a sequel to a sequel. Batman Begins essentially reinvented the Batman series and gave it credence among movie goers once again. As good as that reinvention was though it could not compare to just how good its sequel The Dark Knight was. There are an insane amount of hype around this movie following the death of Heath Ledger, and The Dark Knight not only lived up to that hype, it blew everyone's expectations away.

5 - Aliens
It is kind of sad to see how the AvP spinoff movies have tarnished this once great franchise. The original Aliens was an entertaining sci-fi horror film with a pretty unique villain, but Aliens absolutely blew it out of the water. The sense of menace is absolutely palpable, and I still feel my heart start to race when I'm alone watching this movie in the dark. A classic movie sequel.

4 - The Road Warrior
You can't forget Mad Max on a list of the top 10 best movie sequels of all time. The original Mad Max movie was a cool, post-apocalyptic romp that launched Mel Gibson's career. The sequel cranked the action and the violence up a notch, and made this movie an instant cult classic. A shame Beyond Thunderdome tarnished the series. Why would they ever cast Tina Turner as a villain? It boggles the mind.

3 - The Empire Strikes Back
There aren't too many movie sequels where the bad guys win, but The Empire Strikes Back, the sequel to Star Wars: A New Hope had that particular rare plot twist. Ultimately, since it was the second part of a trilogy, you knew the good guys were eventually going to win, but it was kind of refreshing to see a fictional movie without a happy ending.

2 - Terminator 2
Judgment Day - The original Terminator wasn't Arnold Schwarzenegger's first movie, but it was the one that really launched his career and made him an international movie star. This James Cameron vehicle was a surprise hit when it launched in 1984, and there was a lot of hype when the sequel finally launched 7 years later. Audiences were surprised to learn that Schwarzenegger wasn't actually the villain in the sequel. His fame had grown to this point where audiences wanted him to be a hero rather than a villain, so he took on the role of a "good" terminator, and protector. The decision proved to be a good one, and to this day the movie is hailed as one of the greatest action movies of all time.

1 - The Godfather II
Despite the quality of the other films on this list of the top 10 best movie sequels of all time this one was quite a landslide. As good as the original Godfather movie was it seemed impossible that the sequel could actually live up to the lofty standards set by Coppola's original masterpiece. You can argue about which movie was better, but I can guarantee you that nobody who was a fan of the first film was disappointed by the second.

Richard Mendoza Murder Jealousy- Sometime in November 2002, Richard "Ricky" Mendoza looked into a classroom window at his Missouri City high school and caught an upsetting sight: his girlfriend of two years kissing his baseball teammate, Christopher Allen Daigle.

Authorities now believe that moment in the classroom may have foreshadowed what happened to the teen, whose disappearance remained a mystery for several years.

DA forgets to charge murder suspect- A Texas man accused of shooting his 17-year-old friend in the head walked out of jail Monday because prosecutors forgot to file proper paperwork after his arrest.
Richard Mendoza Jr., 26, is accused of killing Christopher Daigle in 2002 near Missouri City, Texas, while the pair were on a hunting trip.

But because the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office forgot to get an indictment within the 90-day window of the suspect's arrest, he was let out of jail Monday ahead of his arraignment, KPRC reported.
Mendoza and Daigle went hunting in an open field on Nov. 7, 2002. Daigle's family says Mendoza thought his friend was flirting with his girlfriend, so he shot him in the back of the head, myFOXhouston.com reported.
No arrest was made until Daigle's bones were finally discovered in the field on Aug. 12 this year.
After DNA testing, Mendoza was immediately arrested and held in jail.
District Attorney John Healey admitted his office made a huge mistake by not filing the necessary paperwork on time and he has taken full responsibility for it.
"It is a mistake that shouldn't have been made, but it's a long road between now and the time the defendant is going to be in front of 12 citizens of Fort Bend County," Healey said.

Driver walks off, stranding passengers, greyhound driver 100 miles destination- Greyhound officials located a driver on Monday who walked away from her bus in the middle of the night in rural Missouri, leaving 45 passengers stranded for about eight hours at a gas station, the company said.
The company was conducting an investigation of the incident and will take "appropriate disciplinary actions," spokeswoman Maureen Richmond said.

"It was certainly unprecedented and absolutely inexcusable," Richmond said.
Richmond did not identify the driver but said she was based in Memphis, Tennessee, and was cooperating with officials after being unavailable immediately after the incident. Richmond said the company made contact with the driver on Monday and was questioning her about her actions.
The woman was driving a route from Memphis to St. Louis -- normally a six-hour trip -- but left the bus 150 miles short of her destination, turning the journey into a roughly 16-hour ordeal for passengers who boarded in Memphis.
Passengers who left Memphis about 7:30 p.m. Friday finally made it into St. Louis about noon on Saturday. No one was harmed.

Fans had feared originally that the "Stayin' Alive" singer was suffering from the same condition that contributed to the unexpected death of his twin brother and former bandmate, Maurice. Maurice Gibb died from a heart attack in 2003, aged 53, during surgery for a twisted intestine.

Robin Gibb discussed his struggle to come to terms with his brother's death in a program due to be televised Sunday by UK satellite channel Sky Arts.

The amateur incision was then sealed with super glue, police said. The victim was later hospitalized with a serious medical condition as a result of the injections.
Morris, who police say is a man but appears to look like a woman and sports an apparently enhanced rear herself in arrest photos, was being held on $7,500 bond. it was unknown whether she has an attorney.

The Army Corps of Engineers, which oversees Lake Whitney, is patrolling a number of areas that contain artifacts, including some rock shelters once filled with water, said Abraham Phillips, natural resources specialist with the agency.

At Lake Georgetown near Austin, fishermen discovered what experts determined was the skull of an American Indian buried for hundreds or thousands of years. It's not clear what will become of the skull, said Kate Spradley, a Texas State University assistant anthropology professor who is keeping it temporarily in a lab. She tied for most wins with British singer Adele, who also earned three trophies for female pop artist, best album with smash hit "21" and top adult contemporary performer.

But Adele, who came into the awards show as the most-nominated singer with four nods, lost artist of the year to Swift, who seemed genuinely surprised by the upset victory.

"This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me," Swift said. "I have no idea what I'm supposed to say. I did not think this was going to happen."

Along with year's top artist, Swift claimed AMA trophies for favorite female country artist for the second straight year, and she nabbed best country album with her "Speak Now."

Adele, who is recovering from vocal cord surgery, was not on hand to accept her awards.

Rapper Nicki Minaj was the night's other big winner with two AMAs in the rap or hip-hop category: favorite artist and best album for her "Pink Friday."

Minaj opened the show singing her smash hit single "Super Bass" in a metallic outfit that had two large speakers on her bottom, and after winning best hip-hop album for "Pink Friday" was overcome with emotion.

"This one could actually make me cry," Minaj said onstage before wiping away tears. "I can't believe this is happening."

MANY AWARDS, MANY WINNERS

Elsewhere, the AMA awards were split among numerous acts.

Rounding out the country awards with Swift were Blake Shelton for best male artist and Lady Antebellum best group.

Maroon 5 picked up the honor for best pop or rock group behind current hit "Moves Like Jagger," and Bruno Mars rounded out the pop category with an AMA trophy for best male artist.

Among R&B acts, Rihanna grabbed best album with "Loud," winning over ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and his "F.A.M.E." Usher was named favorite R&B male artist and Beyonce best female.

Finally, the Foo Fighters earned top alternative rock band, Jennifer Lopez was the top Latin artist, and Casting Crowns won for best contemporary inspirational act.

While awards are the major focus, the show brings out top acts to perform. Lopez put on two crowd-pleasing acts, one solo and the other with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am.

Justin Bieber with his holiday song "Under the Mistletoe," had fans singing in the audience, and Enrique Iglesias with his anthem "I Like How it Feels" had them hopping to the beat.

Marc Anthony and Pitbull also rocked the crowd, and the show ended with LMFAO singing from their "Party Rock" album, dancing with Bieber, and stripping to their underwear.

The AMA awards is among the most widely watched of the annual U.S. musical honors at the end of each year. Next up on the list of key honors are Grammy nominations, which will be announced on November 30.
