A series of more than 70 small earthquakes, some registering as high as magnitude 5.4, rattled Imperial County on Sunday. The shaking was felt as far away as San Diego, San Clemente and Yuma, Ariz., according to the Los Angeles Times.
Most of the earthquakes were centered around Brawley, Calif., which sits near the couthern end of the San Andreas Fault. Several older buildings in Brawley suffered cosmetic damage.
Thomas Jordan, director of the Southern California Earthquake Center at USC, called the series of earthquakes a "very active swarm" and said the region could experience more shaking in the week to
come.
"We're always concerned where there is significant seismic activity because that means there is a higher probability of having more seismic activity," he said.
