Top 5 Fantasy Football Sleeper Quarterbacks for 2012
This season a lot of fantasy football owners are looking to find this year's quarterback sleepers that will produce value much like Matthew Stafford and Cam Newton did last season. Some of the sleeper quarterbacks this season have a better chance than others but if they pop they should create great returns. This is a list of the top 5 fantasy football quarterback sleepers this 2012 NFL season.
1. Josh Freeman - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Notes: Freeman was horrible last season and a complete fantasy football bust compared to his '10 NFL season. This year should be different though and rightfully he is considered a sleeper. The Buccaneers as well as Freeman have made strides to improve upon last year's poor offensive performance. The Buccaneers also have one of the easiest schedules for quarterbacks and wide receivers which should be a huge positive for Freeman and this offense. The Buccaneers quarterback is going about 125th overall and I expect him to produce closer or potentially beyond this '10 numbers.
2. Jake Locker - Tennessee Titans
Notes: Last season Locker had the opportunity to study under Matt Hasselbeck. This year he'll begin the season as the starting quarterback for the Titans. Fortunately for Locker he has some exceptional weapons to throw to this season as well as elite running back Chris Johnson to take some of the attention off him. Locker still has to prove he's ready to lead this offense but until then he's considered a solid quarterback sleeper.
3. Carson Palmer - Oakland Raiders
Notes: Last season Palmer was thrown into the Raiders offense without much preparation. Needless to say, last season wasn't his best. However as the season progressed he became more comfortable. Notably, when Denarius Moore was playing Palmer had some of his best games. If Moore, Darren McFadden, and the rest of the Raiders' offense can stay healthy Palmer should be a very good fantasy football sleeper.
4. Andrew Luck - Indianapolis Colts
Notes: This fantasy football season Luck is being drafted on average about 118th overall and is being taken in about 90% of leagues. Looking strong in his first preseason game, playing in a restructured offense, and considering all the potential and hype, I think he's worth a look. At best this quarterback sleeper will pop this season and you'll have the luxury of drafting a top 10 quarterback in the very late rounds. At worst he'll be solid backup quarterback to fill in for your starter when they have their bye week.
5. Russell Wilson - Seattle Seahawks
Notes: I've been waiting for a fantasy football quarterback to emerge out of the NFC West and if Seahawks rookie Wilson secures the starting job, he could be that guy. He's looked excellent this preseason going 35-52 for 464 yards, 5 passing touchdowns and one interception as well as 10 rush attempts for 150 yards and a touchdown. However, it is preseason and when the regular season starts it could go much differently. Either way, Wilson is currently an undrafted sleeper in fantasy football leagues and I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the starting quarterback at the beginning of the regular season for the Seahawks.
