GE is recalling about 1.3 million dishwashers after receiving reports of the heating elements starting fires, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The recalled models include Adora,Eterna,Profile and Hotpoint dishwashers sold between March 2006 and August 2009 for $350-$850. They were made in the U.S.

The CPSC said an electrical failure in the heating element is the problem. GE said it received 15 reports of problems, including seven fires.
If you have one of the dishwashers, you are asked to disconnect it from the power supply by shutting the fuse or circuit breaker and to contact GE to receive either a free in-home repair or to get a rebate of either $75 or $100 toward the purchase of a new GE dishwasher.
