5 Cents Soda Can



5 Cents Soda Can, Have you ever collected the 5 cent deposit on empty soda-pop cans? I know that legally I have the right to take empty cans to any store selling canned soda-pop and collect 5 cents for every can. I have a bag of cans in my apartment that I’d be happy to recycle, if my building had a recycling bin I trusted. It seems like this deposit collection thing is the next best alternative.

The only catch is that I’ve never seen anyone do it, and I have the sort of social anxiety that prevents me from walking into Gristedes with a big bag of empty cans and no idea of who I should talk to or what to expect.


I don’t even know if it is OK to crush the cans!

Does anybody on this thing have any experience with this mundane activity?
