Billboard woman of the year

While Adele dominated the Billboard 200 chart during the last year and half, another female artist carried the girl power banner on the Billboard Hot 100. That’s right, Katy Perry ruled the airwaves for months and now she has earned the coveted title of Billboard’s Woman of the Year.

Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ album has sold a stunning 2.5 million copies in the US since 2010 and held a spot on the Billboard 200 for over 100 weeks. Additionally, the LP generated a stunning five #1 songs on the Hot 100, thus making her the first female artist to achieve that feat and only the second act in history to garner as many hits from a single album, following Michael Jackson with his ‘Bad’ album.
Additionally, Perry’s charted nine #1 songs on the Top 40/Mainstream radio lineup, seven on Adult Top 40 and ten on the Dance Club Songs.  To date, she has landed seven #1 hits on Hot 100 and sold 48 million singles in the US with a platinum and a double album to her name.
