Jason Kidd DWI

New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd plans to fight a DWI charge stemming from a summer
accident in which he crashed his SUV into a telephone pole, his lawyer told reporters Wednesday.

Kidd offered a "good morning" to reporters outside Southampton Town Court on Long Island, N.Y. He didn't speak to the judge during his court appearance.

Asked about the allegations, attorney Edward Burke Jr. told reporters, "We are defending that. He is taking this very, very seriously. He wants to get this past him as quickly as possible. The legal process takes some time but he is ready for his season."

Days after his July signing with the Knicks from the Dallas Mavericks, Kidd suffered minor injuries when his SUV hit the pole and veered into the woods in the hamlet of Water Mill. He was arrested, and charged. The misdemeanor charge carries the possibility of a one-year jail sentence. His next scheduled court appearance is Nov. 7.
