As noted at ESPN on Monday, September 3, 2012, the embarrassing Old Navy T-shirt mistake, which was not mentioned as to when it was printed, has reached to Gap Inc., which owns Old Navy, releasing a statement admitting the error and that they will correct them as soon as possible.
“The NFL clothing sold in our Old Navy stores is created by a third party sports licensing company. It is our intention to always provide the best merchandise to our customers and NFL fans. We apologize for this error and are removing the T-shirts.” Gap spokesperson Edie Kissko was quoted telling to ESPN.
Apparently, a lot of errors in this new Old Navy t-shirt can be noticed, besides the fact that Houston Texans did not really won the 1961 AFC (American Football Conference) championship title, which is very much impossible since AFC was only established in 1970, or nine years later.
Based on football history, AFC, originated as the American Football League (AFL), which later joined with the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger back in 1970. It is the counterpart of National Football Conference (NFC), and one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL).
For the Houston Texans history, this football team joined the NFL in 2002 as an expansion team after Houston‘s previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, which moved from Texas to Tennessee and became the Tennessee Titans. It was the Houston Oilers that won in 1961 but it was an AFL title, not AFC.
