Chevy Chase is on the frying pan for blowing off steam on the set of
the NBC show “Community” Friday. Chase was reportedly angry at the
direction his bigoted character, Pierce Hawthorne, was taking and
angrily ranted that the next thing he would be asked to do is call
Donald Glover’s character Troy or Yvette Nicole Brown’s character
Shirley the “N-word.”
The 69-year-old actor has now apologized for using the word,
clarifying that his frustrations were not directed at any of his cast
members. Not that we think that needed clarifying, but evidently Chase
did.
It’s a little ironic actually because Chase played a bigot based on
the Mel Gibson incident in the ripped from the headlines Law & Order
episode “In Vino Veritas”
(2006). In that episode, it was okay for his character, Mitch Carroll,
to say “Jew bitch” and to call Milena Govich’s character, Nina Cassady,
“sugar tits” on TV, nevermind in a rant with a director.
