Australian billionaire Clive Palmer, whose estimated
$8 billion fortune comes from investments in various natural resources
companies, made headlines a few weeks ago when he released more details
of his plan to build the Titanic II, which he promised would be, "every bit as luxurious as the original
Titanic
but of course it will have state-of-the-art 21st century technology."
But tempting one notorious fate just wasn't enough for Palmer. Now he
allegedly wants to follow in the doomed footsteps of Jurassic Park.
The Australian site Sunshine Coast Daily [via Movieline]
has been in the loop on a vast resort Palmer is planning on building
for a while now, and their most recent report has people from inside the
billionaire's camp saying he's been in deep negotiations with the team
that famously cloned Dolly the sheep to clone a dinosaur that he can
then set free in his resort. Sounds like a foolproof idea.
Of course, Palmer has neither confirmed nor denied that he wants to
become a real world John Hammond, but considering his audacious Titanic II plans are indeed very real, we'd hardly put it past him. And we can't really blame him, either. If he's only ever seen Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park,
the Hammond he knows lives. If he's read Michael Crichton's book,
though, he'd know it does not end quite so well for the man who dared
resurrect the dead.
