DAYTONA BEACH, FL —- A man who won a lottery prize is now considered a thief by police officers in Daytona Beach.
Investigators say the lottery winner just couldn't get his cash fast enough.
The clerk gave the robber a nickel when the robber asked for a coin so
he can scratch the lottery
ticket, according to officials.
A clerk at a convenience store says when she opened her cash drawer to
pay out the man's winning ticket, he helped himself by grabbing more
money.
"When the clerk got ready to cash him out, she opened the cash drawer,
he struggled with her and he reached in and grabbed less than 50 dollars
and ran out of the store," said Daytona Beach Police spokesman Jimmie
Flynt.
Surveillance video from inside the store captured the incident. A fairly
clear shot of the man's face was released. Detectives hope the public
will help find the man.
The robber is described as a white man in his 40s with a stocky build
and reddish blond hair. He was last seen wearing a Columbia white
fishing-type shirt with a University of Miami logo, a gold watch, blue
jeans and dark shoes.
