The Colorado massacre suspect, James Holmes, who is charged with killing 12 people
by opening fire on a crowded Aurora movie threatre on July 20 is in the
hospital for unspecified reasons after making "half-hearted" suicide
attempts over the last few days, reports CBS News.
Holmes was scheduled for a hearing on Thursday, but court documents filed on Wednesday
said that his current condition makes it impossible for him to be
present. The hearing was scheduled to discuss pretrial
motions and media
requests for information under state open records laws.
Law enforcement sources reported that Holmes has many many suicide
attempts over the last few days, but none had resulted in any serious
injury. One suicide attempt involved the movie massacre suspect throwing
himself into jail cell walls.
Holmes's mental health has been an issue in the case. His lawyers
told a judge in August that he is mentally ill, but it is not known
whether or not he will plea insanity.
