MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) Wayne Rooney picked up an injury on
Christmas Day that forced him to miss Manchester United Barclays Premier
League game against Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
Rooney had a poor game against Swansea City on Sunday and there were speculations that his performance had contributed to the striker being left out by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, Manchester United
are now saying the England international suffered an injury during a
Christmas Day morning training session at Carrington, forcing him to sit
this one out.
But Rooney is currently at Old Trafford watching the game hoping that he could have been down on the pitch helping his team as they look to maintain their four point lead.
Manchester United are in big time trouble at the moment, trailing
Newcastle 2-1 at home after many had predicted the leaders to easily
come away with a victory.
In other Manchester United team reports, Ashley Young also picked up an injury on Christmas Day and misses the game, while striker Danny Welbeck is out ill.
Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie start up front and have so far been poor
