Trenton, NJ, United States (4E) – The $338 million Powerball jackpot is likely won by someone from New Jersey as the winning ticket for the lottery’s fourth largest prize drawn Saturday was sold in the Garden State, according to Powerball officials.

The winner is the holder of the ticket bearing the numbers 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and 31, the last number being the Powerball.
The jackpot rose to $338 million from $320 million on Saturday as more people bought tickets before the sales deadline. The winner may choose to receive the jackpot in lump sum cash of more than $211 million.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in more than 175 million, according to the lottery’s website. The record jackpot of more than $587 million was won on Nov. 28, 2012. Co-winners Matthew Good of Arizona and Cindy and Mark Hill of Missouri chose to receive the prize in lump sum cash of more than $384 million.
The lottery’s second largest jackpot was $365 million won by ConAgra Foods co-workers in Nebraska on Feb. 18, 2006. The third largest jackpot was worth $340 million won on Oct. 19, 2005 in Oregon by two families, who split the cash payout of $164.4 million.
Last month, Dave Honeywell of Virginia won the Powerball jackpot of $217.2 million. Last year, there were two individual winners of the jackpot closely worth this month’s top prize. Donald Lawson of Michigan won the $337 million August 15 jackpot but chose to get it in cash of more than $224 million. Louise White of Rhode Island won the $336.9 million jackpot on Feb. 11 but chose to get it in cash of $206.9 million.
Powerball is held in 42 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.
