Amputee killed by dogs

Amputee killed by dogs, Reports of an amputee killed by dogs stunned a South Carolina community. 80-year-old Carlton Freeman was dragged from his motorized wheelchair and then mauled to death by four vicious pit bulls.

The tragic incident occurred on May 8, confirmed Maj. John Garrison of the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department. According to UPI.com, Carlton Freeman was an 80-year-old double-amputee who lost his legs to diabetes.

According to reports, Carlton Freeman struggled with the dogs and tried to fight them off. Enduring the brutal attack, Freeman was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, 80-year-old amputee Carlton Freeman died four days later.

"Upon my examination of Mr. Freeman, it is a wonder that this gentleman was able to hang on as long as he did," commented Coroner Chris Nesbit. "He had bites and lacerations from his legs to the top of his head. This is very sad story, but even worse that Mr. Freeman was basically helpless to the attack, due to being a bi-lateral amputee."

According to police reports, the dogs responsible for the savage attack belonged to a woman from the neighborhood. According to Maj. John Garrison, there were traces of blood on the three dogs when they were captured. Unfortunately, the fourth dog responsible for killing Freeman has not been located.
