Smash canceled, All signs pointed to a Smash
cancellation after season 2 premiered to embarrassingly low ratings
followed by the network’s decision to move the show to Saturdays.
Its remaining three episodes will air over the next three Saturdays. Hypable will continue to cover the show in the meantime!
In April we wrote an in-depth piece on why those people who think Smash should be canceled are wrong. One of our reasons was new actors Jeremy Jordan and Andy Mientus.
“Jeremy and Andy have impressed us week-after-week with what they’ve brought to the show,” we wrote in our piece.
“Andy gives Kyle a youthful and optimistic spirit that somehow avoids
becoming naive or bland. He’s sweet, real, layered… And every time he’s
on screen you have to force yourself from smiling like a loon. Jimmy on
the other hand is a bit abrasive and impatient and the audience is
supposed to wonder why Kyle would put up with him. Although, from the
second Jeremy comes on screen, his charisma takes over and you fall in
love instantly.”
After mixed reviews for season 1, NBC had high hopes for season 2.
They went through a serious casting reboot, which included the casting
of Jennifer Hudson. The show was produced by Steve Spielberg and was
viewed by some as an adult Glee.
