Friday, April 12th on Rock Center with Brian Williams, Laurene Powell Jobs is set to be interviewed, for the first time since Steve’s passing, to advocate for young undocumented immigrants.Since Steve’s passing, Laurene has been serving on Stanford’s Board of Trustees, along with running her non-profit group, College Track, that helps underprivileged kids get into college. She’s even worked with Will.i.am to set up a College Track program in the L.A. area.
Earlier this year, Laurene launched a website to help immigrant kids find a path to naturalization, called The Dream Is Now. The website is used to promote the Dream Act, which would help immigrants younger than thirty years old earn legal residence as long as they were brought to the country when they were under fifteen and have lived in America for longer than five years. The bill has been around since 2001, but hasn’t been able to make it through Congress yet.

“I started getting more and more active around immigration reform because this was such a waste of lives, such a waste of potential, such a waste for our country not to have the human capital that we developed – geared towards improving our entire society.The interview airs tomorrow night at 10p/9c.
And so we need all of these brains. We need all that energy. And indeed, you know, there are estimates that integrating dreamers into our economy will give a boost of over $300 billion. So it’s an expansive act. There’s not zero sum here.”
